Are you a skilled pianist seeking either an opportunity to substitute on occasion, or an opportunity to fill an ongoing church Accompanist role? Join a fantastic team in a progressive, LGBTQIA+ open and affirming work environment with a strong commitment to social justice. Services currently are scheduled for 10am Sunday mornings, with plans to shift to 11am in the fall. The Accompanist performs prelude and postlude pieces, accompanies congregational hymns, and provides music for other portions of the services as requested. Requirements: > 1+ years of Accompanist experience, with knowledge of music theory and ability to sight read music > Skilled musician familiar with the structure and characteristics of hymns and the general order of worship. Knowledge of the instrument and pieces sufficient to play hymns in a manner that supports congregational singing (e.g. bringing out the melody line, pausing slightly between verses, providing introductions), accompany vocalists well, perform solo pieces, and reflect the spirit of the service through music. Ability to improvise and/or play from lead sheets and/or chords is preferred. > Highly skilled at playing piano, with ability to accompany vocalists, choir, and ensembles > Ability to select and perform a variety of styles of music appropriate to the service is preferred, from classical to gospel to contemporary > Willingness to rehearse independently and sufficiently enough to maintain a high quality of music > Ability to interact in a cooperative and friendly manner with paid staff, volunteers, and congregation members, and ability to communicate frequently with the Director of Music, Sr. Minister, and other worship leaders, as appropriate > Ability to meet commitments, with timely correspondence and communications, adherence to assigned arrival times, and timely communication of anticipated and unexpected absences, with ability to assist with securing a substitute when absent > Physical ability to sit for the duration of services and rehearsals and manipulate hands and fingers to play instruments and turn pages while playing > Ability to effectively communicate in English verbally with staff and worship leaders Apply today!
