Description
An Arizona woman has been indicted on charges of running a sophisticated election fraud scheme which included illegally collecting and sometimes paying for ballots during the 2020 primary election.
What she did: Ms. Fuentes [who is the former mayor of San Luis, Arizona] used her prominent public status in the Mexican-American community to persuade voters to let her gather and fill out their ballots.
She was caught when someone at a ballot dropoff location spotted her with multiple ballots and filmed her.
Ms. Fuentes and a second, unidentified woman, are charged with ballot abuse [commonly referred to as 'ballot harvesting'], conspiracy, and forgery. Ballot harvesting has been illegal in Arizona since 2016.
The scope of fraud: Although official charges only link Fuentes to the dozen ballots where she was caught on video, investigators believe the fraud went much further.
Time to Wake Up: This is the sort of fraud outlined in the documentary 2000 Mules, which used cellphone data and surveillance footage to track ballot harvestors like Fuentes. In Arizona alone, the documentary found 200 individual mules illegally harvesting ballots to produce roughly 20,000 illegal votes. Joe Biden 'won' the state by roughly 10,000 votes.
