SARASOTA, FL — A felon who pointed a gun at a convenience store customer in 2020 has been sentenced to 17 years in federal prison for unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. Samuel Storey, 43, of Sarasota was also ordered to forfeit a Smith & Wesson semi-automatic gun and seven rounds of ammunition related to the offense, according to a news release from the Department of Justice. He pleaded guilty on Dec. 3, 2021. On Aug. 22, 2020, he got into an altercation with a customer Kings Meat and Deli in Sarasota and pointed a gun at the victim. He left the store shortly after the altercation. When he returned, Sarasota police had responded and were beginning their investigation. An officer detained Storey and found the loaded gun in his pocket, according to the DOJ. He later told Sarasota police that the victim owed him $200, according to the probable cause affidavit. After hitting the victim in the head and pulling out a gun at the store, Storey said, "Get my money." He had been previously convicted of multiple felonies, including felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and selling and possessing with the intent to deliver cocaine. Because of this, he's prohibited from possession a firearm or ammunition under federal law, the DOJ said.
