It's the third round of winners so far in 2022. This round of winners was selected for a college-sponsored merit scholarship, according to a news release from NMSC. The awards provide between $500 to $2000 for up to four years of study at the college that is funding the scholarship. The Whitefish Bay High School student who won this latest scholarship round is among 2,600 students across the nation who learned they won a scholarship on Wednesday, according to the program. About 4,000 students will earn scholarships by the year's end. Over 150 higher education institutions are funding the awards for this round, including private and public scholarships in most states, NMSC said. Students who entered the competition took the 2020 Preliminary SAT and advanced to become a finalist by submitting a scholarship application, which included an essay and information about awards, extracurriculars and leadership, NMSC said. Here's who won in Whitefish Bay: Henry J. Coyle, a Whitefish Bay High School student with a probable future career field in mathematics, won a National Merit Carleton College Scholarship.
