Somerville To Celebrate Pride Month With Flag Raising, Dance Party

SOMERVILLE, MA — The City of Somerville will celebrate Pride Month this June with a flag raising on Wednesday, June 1 at 3 p.m. on the City Hall concourse, located at 93 Highland Avenue. The flag raising will feature remarks from Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, LGBTQ Liaison Jack Treanor, and student representatives from the Somerville Public School Gender and Sexuality Alliances (GSAs). Following the raising of the flag, the mayor is inviting attendees to join her inside City Hall for a reception. Later in the month, the "Big Gay Dance Party" returns to Union Square Plaza on Saturday, June 11 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. (rain date: June 18). Hosted by the Somerville Arts Council and Department of Health and Human Services, this free outdoor dance party will feature music, comedy, and drag performances, as well as local LGBTQ+ craft vendors and community tabling.
