SEATTLE — Seattle-area travelers will have another cheap option for catching a ride to British Columbia this summer, as FlixBus sets up shop in the Emerald City on Thursday. The network launched its first Canada-bound routes earlier this month between New York City and Toronto and, starting this week, will operate a route from Seattle to Vancouver, B.C., Thursday through Monday.
"Let's not let high gas prices get in the way of the vacations we all deserve," said Pierre Gourdain, the company's managing director for North America. "Never has it been so easy and affordable to bridge borders between the most beautiful cities in the Pacific Northwest."
The new route could help fill a gap left by the Amtrak Cascades passenger train, which has postponed the return of its Seattle-Vancouver service until at least December. According to FlixBus, tickets will start at around $18 and the new buses are equipped with free Wi-Fi and power outlets.
Vancouver-bound buses will leave Seattle at 7:30 a.m. and make stops in Everett and Bellingham before crossing the border and stopping at Vancouver's Pacific Central Station and Richards Street-Waterfront Station. The trip is scheduled to take about four hours.
Buses returning to Seattle from Vancouver will depart Richards Street-Waterfront Station at 12:45 p.m. and should arrive back in the Emerald City shortly before 4 p.m. FlixBus's Pacific Northwest service will be operated by its partner MTRWestern, which also provides transportation for area employers, sports teams, resorts and military members.
