Arts Showcase Performances Will Feature The Best Of New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A production that captures the beat of New Rochelle's most brilliant budding stars under the tutelage of professional dancers at the zenith of their careers would be a bargain at any price, but for those of us lucky enough to call this community home, the performances are free. There will be two chances in June to catch New Rochelle Arts Showcase dance performances. Professional musicians and dancers from the Coleman School of Dance, the New Rochelle High School PAVE program, the New Rochelle High School Art honors society, Songcatchers and the greater community collaborated for the event. On June 3 and June 4, professional and student dancers will perform a variety of dance styles, while professional and advanced student musicians, conducted by Lehman College's Professor Alan Hollander, will perform Prokofiev's childhood classic, Peter and the Wolf. Artwork and decor will be created by the Art honors society at New Rochelle High School. "It is our hope that this program will relate to people of all ages and that we come together over the magic of the arts," Coleman said. The project received grant support from ArtsWestchester and Deepak Marwah of New Rochelle High School donated theater space. Performances will be held at the Whitney M. Young Auditorium at New Rochelle High School, located at 375 Clove Road. The Friday, June 3 performance will take place at 7 p.m. The Saturday, June 4 performance will take place at 2 p.m. Free tickets will be available at the door.
