MILFORD, CT — While their state counterparts battled an active holiday weekend with multiple fatalities on Connecticut roadways, Milford police were busy, but with more benign situations. The Memorial Day holiday weekend began Saturday with a report of a male rummaging through unlocked vehicles on Kings Highway. Shortly after the 4:22 a.m. report, the male was confronted by police and fled the area, Milford police said in a statement. Police said they found a suspicious vehicle in that area shortly thereafter, but the driver of that vehicle sped away and escaped on Interstate 95. The vehicle was not pursued by police. Later in the day, police encountered a similar situation when they confronted a "suspicious vehicle" on Boston Post Road. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle's driver "fled erratically" onto the Watson Connector and was not pursued, police said. On Saturday night, police nabbed a shoplifter at May's on 1201 Boston Post Road, police said of the 7:30 p.m. incident. Better weather Sunday had more people out enjoying themselves, with police taking notice should any activities cross any lines. At 1:58 p.m. Sunday, police were called to Gulf Beach as a dirt bike operator was seen riding recklessly near the beach and downtown. The rider was arrested. In addition to those incidents over the three-day weekend, Milford police investigated and dealt with: 14 alcohol violation infractions; 64 parking tickets; nine motor vehicle stops; seven arrest warrants served; three domestic violence arrests; two driving under the influence arrests; four catalytic converters thefts (Subway/Ford Transit, Old Gate Lane/Toyota Tundra, Plains Road/Mitsubishi Outlander and West Avenue/Honda Odyssey); one vehicle stolen, Honda Civic left running and unoccupied; and one unlocked vehicle entered.
