Wanted Man Taken Into Custody: Middletown Police

MIDDLETOWN, CT — A man who was wanted on several arrest warrants was taken into custody Wednesday afternoon in Middletown, according to police. Police received a routine call for service on Wednesday and identified the person involved as Ontario J. Gainey, according to officials. Officials said Gainey, 32, had numerous outstanding arrest warrants from multiple police departments. Police also learned that Gainey could possibly be in the possession of guns, according to officials. "The Middletown Police Department Emergency Response Team and Crisis Negotiators responded to the area of Prospect Street where Gainey was known to be staying," officials wrote in a news release. "Upon arrival, The Emergency Response Team was able to make contact with Gainey via a police PA system. Gainey surrendered to police and was taken into custody without incident." Gainey was taken to Middletown Police Headquarters where he was held and later turned over to Naugatuck police for a warrant service, according to officials. "During the course of the incident, there was no immediate threat to the public and no area schools were placed in lockdown," police said.
