OLD SAYBROOK, CT — A middle school student was charged for making concerning statements and mentioning a "hit list," according to WTNH News-8. Superintendent of Schools Jan Perruccio and Old Saybrook Police Chief Michael Spera sent a letter to school staff and families Tuesday informing them of the incident. The student is accused of telling peers not to come to school Wednesday because there would be a shooting. The student also claimed to have a "hit list," but no such list actually exists, according to NBC CT. The student was arrested for second-degree threatening and second-degree breach of peace. Police confirmed there are no active, credible threats on the town's school campuses, WTNH News-8 reported. This was the second threat against an Old Saybrook middle school in the past week. Last week, a student was taken into custody after allegedly making threats to shoot a staff member and blow up Old Saybrook Middle School, NBC CT reported. The student was kept out of school Wednesday, May 25, and was taken into police custody.
