A light dinner will be served at 5:30 pm and a short program will be at 6:00 pmAwarded annually, the Excellence in Educations Awards are a great way to highlight and show appreciation for education professionals in the community. Individuals are awarded in five categories: teacher grades Pre-K to 5, teacher grades 6 – 8, teacher grades 9 – 12, school support staff, and administration. The Excellence in Education Awards are possible through the generosity of retired Sycamore elementary school teacher, Yvonne Johnson. Through an endowment fund at the DeKalb County Community Foundation, the awards honor and acknowledge outstanding teachers, administrators and support staff from school districts throughout DeKalb County. Award winners receive $1,000 and recognition during an awards ceremony and reception during the summer. The Excellence in Education Awards honor and acknowledge those who go above and beyond in the education field. "Excellence in Education was designed to emphasize the excellent work being done and bring it forward to residents of DeKalb County. Besides being in a classroom, educators work in the community, their church, and groups which value the work they do. When the Fund was started, surrounding counties were recognizing educators, but not DeKalb County. I am fortunate in that I was recognized for my efforts. In turn, I want everyone to be recognized including: elementary school teachers, middle school teachers, high school teachers, support staff, and administrators." - Yvonne Johnson
