Description

Press release from the FCFRD News Blog: May 31, 2022 On Thursday, May 26, at approximately 6:28 p.m., units were dispatched for a reported house fire in the 8900 block of Arley Drive in the Springfield area of Fairfax County. Units arrived on the scene of a two-story, single-family home with heavy fire showing through the roof. Due to the large volume of fire, crews initiated a defensive (outside) operation to extinguish the fire. One occupant sustained minor injuries but declined treatment. There were no firefighter injuries reported. Two occupants were home at the time of the fire. One of the occupants noticed smoke coming from the rear of the house. The occupant discovered a small fire on the exterior of the walkout basement level under a wood saw. His attempts to extinguish the fire was unsuccessful. Both occupants exited the home and called 9-1-1. Smoke alarms sounded after the occupants had exited the home. Fire Investigators determined the fire was accidental in nature and started on the exterior of the house at the basement level. The cause of the fire was smoldering embers that dropped in a sawdust pile. Two occupants were displaced because of the fire. Red Cross assistance was offered but declined. Damages as a result of the fire were approximately $516,075. This press release was produced by the FCFRD News Blog. The views expressed here are the author's own.
