TOMS RIVER, NJ — A project to repair dunes and walkovers damaged during the Mother's Day storm is set to begin Wednesday, Toms River officials announced Tuesday.
The work on the dunes and walkovers in Ortley Beach is scheduled for Harding Avenue to 4th Avenue under a contract approved May 25 by the Toms River Township Council. It was the least expensive of six qualifying bids for the project, Toms River officials said.
The council on May 25 approved a contract for $244,250, for Vulcan Construction Group to do the emergency dune and dune walkover repairs.
"Beachgoers should be mindful of walkovers that are closed off during this time and should stay away from the areas of construction," Toms River officials said in announcing the start of the dune work.
Work is anticipated to be done weekdays only, and should be complete by June 24, officials said. The only issue is weather conditions, officials said.
Ortley Beach is anticipated to be fully open by mid-June, officials said.
