Fruit Salad, The Martin's monthly queer open mic night returns for another month of art & community! Hosted by Rainn and co-produced by The Martin's Whitney LaMora, this open mic night gives ten performers the chance to share their work in front of our supportive & gorgeous group of attendees before we hand it over to our feature performer of the night. This PRIDE Fruit Salad follows the same format with some tweaks! We encourage all of our guests to dress in monochrome so we can have one giant rainbow room upon us! Our open mic sign up is based on a lottery system! Attendees will get a link immediately after purchasing a ticket to sign up for the open mic until Monday June 13th. Five open mic slots are reserved for BIPOC performers and the other five slots are open for all submissions. This PRIDE Fruit Salad we're asking you to bring performances based in QUEER JOY. We want uplifting, positive, joy-filled performances from you - so sign up for the mic with that in mind! After our open mic for the evening, we welcome our featured for the month - DJ KhaliMelon! KhaliMelon comes from the southside of Chicago, but has a sound that will take you across the world and back. Each mix is an eclectic and classy collection of music varying from highs and lows but nothing that will stop you from moving. Put on your dance shoes and get ready to get down. Entry [for one] is a suggested $10 donation and goes back to our Fruit Salad team, the feature, and our giveback partner for the evening: Brave Space Alliance! Brave Space Alliance is the first Black-led, trans-led LGBTQ+ Center located on the South Side of Chicago, dedicated to creating and providing affirming, culturally competent, for-us by-us resources, programming, and services for LGBTQ+ individuals on the South and West sides of the city. They strive to empower, embolden, and educate each other through mutual aid, knowledge-sharing, and the creation of community-sourced resources as we build toward the liberation of all oppressed peoples. Doors for the evening open at 6:30pm and our open mic starts at 7:30pm. Potential performers should arrive by 7:15pm at the latest and check in with our host to be guaranteed their slot. Our feature follows after intermission with a one hour dance party! Entry is 21+ and requires proof of vaccination & a physical ID.
