MURRIETA, CA — A man killed in a Christmas Eve crash on south Interstate 215 in Murrieta has been identified by the coroner's bureau, and the California Highway Patrol said street racing may have contributed to the holiday tragedy. Enrique Guzman Flores, 26, died at the crash scene at the Los Alamos Road exit just after 5 p.m. on Dec. 24. According to a preliminary CHP report, witnesses reported that a 2017 Subaru WRX was seen making unsafe lane changes in excess of 100 mph. Guzman Flores, who was behind the Subaru's wheel, attempted to exit at Los Alamos but struck a guardrail. The vehicle careened out of control into a nearby field and struck a tree. Police and fire radio reports indicated the Subaru caught fire. Guzman Flores was wearing a seatbelt, according to the CHP. "Street racing may have played a role in this crash and is being investigated," according to the CHP report. No other victims were involved in the crash. The Los Alamos Road offramp was closed around 5:17 p.m., and a SigAlert was issued for the area that lasted for several hours. The CHP's Temecula office is investigating the crash. A GoFundMe page has been started for the family of the deceased. The page reads, "He is and will always be an incredible son, brother, grandson, great-grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend. He always lit up a room and made everyone feel welcomed and loved. He always knew what to say to make you smile." Click here to read more. GoFundMe is a Patch promotional partner.
