NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — As temperatures soar into the upper 90s Tuesday, the city of New Brunswick opened a cooling center at the Unity Square Community Center until 7 p.m. Tuesday. The cooling center, which has air conditioning and seating, is open to all. The cooling center is primarily meant for the homeless who don't have access to air conditioning and for whom being in excessive heat can be dangerous and even life threatening. But anyone can use the center, including home-bound seniors who may not have air conditioning in their homes. Also, due to excessive heat, a Code Red has been called for the city of New Brunswick. The Unity Square Community Center is located at 81 Remsen Avenue in New Brunswick.
