PROVIDENCE, RI — A Massachusetts man was arrested Tuesday after slamming a dog into the floor at a home in Providence, according to the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA). Eric Pereira, 32, of Brockton, Massachusetts, was arrested after he abused and injured a 4-pound Shih Tzu in April, authorities said. The dog suffered serious injuries, but survived, RISPCA officials said. According to Rhode Island Most Wanted, Pereira has a lengthy criminal history in Massachusetts, including gun and drug charges.
