HOBOKEN, NJ — While various proposals for a Hoboken community pool have been "floated" over the years, it'll take a while for any of them to become a reality — and with summer bearing down, people want options. At Wednesday night's City Council meeting, the council was set to vote on a one-year contract to allow the community to use the pool at the Stevens Institute of Technology, with hours to be determined. (Watch Patch for updates.) In fact, as of Wednesday, Stevens had, on its website, "Stevens & Hoboken Community Registration. At the time the facility is not open. This will be updated when an opening date is set." Right now, residents can use the Olympic-size Pershing Park pool in Jersey City Heights, with its new retractable roof, for a small fee (find out more here). Also: Union City has a nice variety of pools for Hudson County residents to use for free, from the Firemen's Memorial Park pool near the top of the Viaduct, to the baby pool at the music park near the Weehawken border. (Weehawken has a new pool this year, but has only opened it to residents and isn't even allowing guests.) Come back to Patch for an update on hours and other features of the Stevens pool contract.
