Essential Functions Statements • Learn and follow safety regulations. • Communicate and understand the English language. • Check slopes for conformance to requirements, using levels or lasers. • Lay out pipe routes, following written instructions or blueprints and coordinating layouts with supervisors. • Setup or use instruments such as smart levels, lasers, grade rods, or transit levels. • Train or supervise others in laying pipe. • Locate existing pipes needing repair or replacement with hand tools or with the assistance of heavy equipment. • Cut pipes to required lengths. • Connect pipe pieces and seal joints, using welding equipment, cement, glue or soap. • Install or repair sanitary or storm water sewer structures or pipe systems. • Dig trenches to desired or required depths, by hand or using trenching tools. • Grade or level trench bases, using tamping machines or hand tools. • Align and position pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing. • Pour & finish concrete to create the manhole base, or install prefabricated manhole bases, sections, cones, rings and lids to the required elevations. • Tap and drill holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary lines or devices. • Cover pipes with earth or other materials. • Operate walk-behind trench compaction equipment, such as plate compactors, rollers, or jumping jacks.
