MONESSEN, PA — The superintendent of a Pennsylvania school district is facing charges after police say she and a man were caught in a sex act in the parking lot of an apartment complex. Leanne Spazak, the superintendent of Monessen City School District, and Robert Cappelli, 61, have been charged with open lewdness, indecent exposure, public drunkenness, and disorderly conduct, according to Pennsylvania court documents. The couple was reportedly found by police in "a state of undress" in the backseat of a truck parked at Nathan Goff Apartments in North Charleroi, CBS Pittsburgh reported. Police asked Spazak, 55, and Cappelli to get dressed and get out of the truck, according to CBS. When they did, police said they noticed both smelled of alcohol. When asked why they were in the parking lot, Cappelli told police he "didn't think anyone would be watching," CBS reported. Monessen City School District officials released a statement Monday stating that they were aware of the charges against Spazak. "By all accounts known at this time, Dr. Spazak has not been charged with any offense involving her presence on school grounds or in connection with the performance of her duties as superintendent," the statement read. Officials went on to say "appropriate actions" will be considered to address the incident. "The safety, education and building of character of the students of Monessen City School District are matters that cannot and will not be compromised under any circumstances," officials said.
