CONCORD, NH — Educators from Atkinson, Dover, Durham, Goffstown, Hampton, Hollis, Hudson, Merrimack, Nashua, and Stoddard are semi-finalists for New Hampshire's Teacher of the Year for 2023. The 10 teachers were selected from 44 nominations across the state. The selection committee includes state officials and past teachers of the year. The semi-finalists will present to the committee their teaching story and personal thoughts about opportunities when it comes to the future of education in the state. The semi-finalists include: Susan Bradford, third grade at the James Mastricola Elementary School in MerrimackAmanda Bridges, fifth grade at the James Faulkner Elementary School in StoddardChristian Cheetham, ninth through twelfth grades at Alvirne High School in HudsonMikella Eichen, fourth grade at Atkinson AcademyBonnie Heath, sixth through eighth grades at Hampton AcademyCarmen Kosow, preschool and kindergarten at the New Searles Elementary School in NashuaJennifer MacLeod, eighth grade at the Hollis Brookline Middle SchoolCurt McDermott, ninth through 12th grade at Goffstown High SchoolCathi Stetson, 10th through 12th grades at Oyster River High School in DurhamJulie Verde, ninth through 10th grades at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School in Dover "The 2023 Teacher of the Year will be New Hampshire's entrant in the National Teacher of the Year program," Kim Houghton, a department spokesperson, said. "The national program, run by the Council of Chief State School Officers, identifies exceptional teachers in the country, recognizes their effective work in the classroom, amplifies their voices, and empowers them to participate in policy discussions at the state and national levels."
