DOYLESTOWN, PA — Pride Month begins June 1, and students in Bucks County will lead the way as the LGBTQ+ community and allies raise two pride flags on Wednesday evening. Bucks County students will lead a flag raising at the former Bucks County courthouse lawn (55 E. Court Street), according to Doylestown Pride and the Rainbow Room. Then, there will be a "short, fun pride walk" at 6:15 p.m. to raise another flag at the new Doylestown Borough Hall (10 Doyle Street) at 6:30 p.m. Pride Month, observed June 1-30 nationwide, honors the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan, five days of riots after police raided the Stonewall Inn that became a watershed moment for gay rights. Homosexual acts were illegal in every state but Illinois at the time, and bars and restaurants could be shut down just by having a gay employee or serving a gay patron. Doylestown's third Pride Festival is June 12-19, 2022, sponsored by Doylestown Pride and the Rainbow Room.
