BEAVERTON, OR — State Treasurer Tobias Read, who lost his bid to become the Democratic nominee for governor, on Tuesday endorsed Tina Kotek, who defeated him in the May 17 primary election.
"I respect their decision," Read said in a statement acknowledging voters' choice two weeks ago. "And I'm committed to working with her to make Oregon a place where every child can realize their full potential."
Kotek, the former speaker of the Oregon House of Representatives, received 58.3 percent to Read's 32.1 percent.
Kotek said she was "honored" to have Read's endorsement.
"There's a lot at stake this November: protecting reproductive rights, reducing gun violence, taking on climate change and much more," she said. "I'm proud to have Tobias with me in this fight."
Kotek will face Republican Christine Drazan in November, along with Betsy Johnson, who is expected to be on the ballot as an independent.
