Press release from Hennepin County Library: June 1, 2022 Pride month is celebrated each year during the month of June in cities large and small across the country and beyond. June was selected as the month to celebrate Pride to honor the Stonewall uprising that occurred in June of 1969 in Greenwich Village in New York City. The uprising energized the gay rights movement, ultimately becoming a broad fight for LBGT rights that continues to this day. Celebrate Pride with programs and recommended books for all ages. June 3-4 Pride Storytime at Ridgedale Library For children of all ages and their caregivers. Celebrate family and self-expression during Pride month through books, stories, rhymes, music, and movement. June 8-14 Dial-a-Story Call 612-543-8851 and listen to a recording of staff reading a short story on-demand. This week's story is "The Shape of My Name" by Nino Cipri. June 16-22 Dial-a-Story Call 612-543-8851 and listen to a recording of staff reading a short story on-demand. This week's story is "The Beasts Who Fought for Fairyland Until the Very End and Further Still" by Catherynne Valente, and can be found in her short story collection "The Future is Blue." June 24 Pride Storytime at Augsburg Park Library For children of all ages and their caregivers. Celebrate family and self-expression during Pride month through books, stories, rhymes, music, and movement. June 25-26 Twin Cities Pride Festival Visit the library's booth at the 50th annual Twin Cities Pride Festival, held at Loring Park in Minneapolis.
