LAKEVILLE, MN —Lakeville Area Schools has announced that the district has received grants from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) designed to help with learning recovery and support student needs. "This funding is essential as all Minnesota schools work to bridge the learning gap that has occurred due to the COVID-19 pandemic," the district said in a statement. "It also helps offset funding constraints that continue to persist across all districts, including Lakeville Area Schools." Thanks to the grants, the district said it will be able to work with the Center for Applied Research and Educational Improvement (CAREI) to audit and review Lakeville Area Schools' standing in the five components around the Minnesota Multi-tiered System of Supports (MnMTSS). The MnMTSS is a framework for ensuring positive social, emotional, behavioral, developmental and academic outcomes for every student, according to the MDE. Additionally, the MDE grants will help the district reimagine the middle school COMPASS program, which is designed to help students in the eighth and ninth grades who are at risk in the mainstream setting. Plus, the grants will help provide summer academic and enrichment opportunities with mental health support, the district said. Though this round of funding is limited to the state's grant and funding parameters, the district said it will be working to sustain these programs going forward.
