Here's Where The Upper West Side COVID-19 Rate Stands

UPPER WEST SIDE, NY — There were recently some welcomed signs for the Upper West Side's COVID situation. After local ZIP codes hovered around the highest seven-day COVID rates in the city for multiple weeks in March and April, the case count on the UWS has fallen recently, according to data from the city. There are other positive signs, as the COVID hospitalization and infection rates in NYC have begun to slow. It's a small drop, but cases per 100,000 in the city flatlined. There were 348 per 100,000 on May 24, which has dropped to around 355 since May 15, according to data from the health department. The latest data available for patients hospitalized by vaccine status (May 14) shows that unvaccinated New Yorkers were 38 times more likely to end up in the hospital for COVID-19 than those who got the shot. For comparison, the Upper West Side had two of the five highest rates of any NYC ZIP code from April 9 to 15. With that being said, the 10025 ZIP code still had the fifth-highest total new positives from May 18 to 24 of any NYC ZIP code during the week.
