DETROIT — A Ypsilanti driver was arrested after police said he struck two young girls Monday night on Belle Isle and drove away. Both girls, ages 12 and 14, were taken to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition as of Tuesday morning, officials said. A preliminary investigation showed the 23-year-old man was driving a four-door Mercury sedan when he left Riverbank Drive and onto the beach, striking the two girls at 8:15 p.m., officials said. The driver never stopped and fled the scene, officials said. The 23-year-old man was arrested in Detroit after police found the car on the city's westside, officials said.
