METRO DETROIT — Metro Detroit gas prices are now the highest averages in the state after jumping 13 cents from last week, according to AAA.
Regular gas prices in metro Detroit set another record high Tuesday morning at an average of $4.73, which is $1.63 more than this time last year, according to AAA.
An average gallon of regular gas in Wayne County was $4.75, Oakland County $4.74 and Macomb County $4.67, all among the highest averages in the state, according to AAA.
Regular gas prices across the state of Michigan also reached new record highs at an average of $4.61, which is just one cent cheaper than the national average at $4.62, according to AAA.
"A spike in demand for the busy Memorial Day weekend helped push Michigan gas prices to a new record high," AAA spokesperson Adrienne Woodland said. "A post holiday decline in demand could have motorists seeing some stability at the pump, but if crude oil prices continue to trade above $105 per barrel, then gas prices will likely remain elevated."
