LI Student Threatens To 'Shoot Up The School': Police

RIVERHEAD, NY — A 15-year-old was arrested Wednesday after he threatened violence at Riverhead High School, police said. According to Riverhead Town police, at 1:09 p.m., authorities, while at the school for an unrelated incident, were told that a Riverhead High School student had threatened violence against the faculty and students. The male student, police said, yelled into a classroom, saying, "I'm gonna shoot up the school." The student was immediately detained by school security and was found to not be in possession of any weapons, police said. The Riverhead Police Department's detective division was notified and responded to assist with the investigation, authorities said. The teen was arrested and taken to the Riverhead Police Department, along with his parents, where he was charged with one count of making a terroristic threat, police said. He was transported to the Nassau County juvenile detention facility, where he will be detained until his arraignment at Suffolk County Superior Court, Youth Part, on Thursday, police said. A search of the student's home for any weapons was conducted, with no weapons found, police said. An extreme risk protection order is currently pending, police said.
