Description
Is an entrepreneur like Hilly Kristal to open an Albany equivalent of CBGB. He had one rule: No covers. He didn't care what style of music you played, as long as you wrote the music yourself. As a result, we got Blondie, The Ramones, Television, The Heartbreakers, The NY Dolls, et al. Bands that truly helped drive Rock and Roll forward.
The problem with the capital district is that there are no forward-thinking club owners, just a bunch of short-sighted profiteers who can only look backwards, into the past. They all claim people only want to hear covers, but honestly, how many of them have ever really given original music a fair shake? If all cities in the USA were like Albany, Rock and Roll would have died out long ago.
