Description

Project Comeback Open House Please join us for the Project Comeback Open House, where currently serving Military and Veterans work directly with rescue horses learn relatable life lessons while helping these horses readjust to back into the horse community. This open house is the opportunity for potential participants, sponsors and other interested persons to meet the horses, speak with program staff and develop a greater understanding of the program itself. Eligible military and Veterans may enroll in the program at no cost, which will be over 6-8 sessions on Sundays starting in June, during the open house. No experience necessary. Participants will be taught all that they require to participate throughout the sessions. If interested in enrolling, please bring your DD214 stating Honorable service or present an unexpired CAC with you. Space is limited and is available on a first come, first serve basis to qualified individuals. When horses can no longer fulfill their work function, they’re cast out and often sent to slaughter. Project Comeback rescues horses and, once rescued, the mission is to patiently reeducate these horses so that they can readjust to horse life. Who better to do that than Veterans who have learned or are learning to readjust to civilian life? Through the process of helping these horses, both the horse and the Veteran develops tools that will improve their quality of life. This is NOT a riding program. There are many horses at Project Comeback. Here’s one of their stories… "Bud was rescued from a "free" ad on Craigslist. Bud was an Amish plow horse most of his life, which means he worked long hard days pulling wagons and farm equipment. He wore his harness so much that it rubbed off all the hair on his nose and left him with scars all around his face. Bud is the most fearful horse of people that we have seen to date. When approached his entire body begins to tremble in fear. It took time and so much patience, but we are happy to say that our hard work has paid off and Bud LOVES scratches on his belly. Finally, at the age of 30+, Bud is able to enjoy the retirement he deserves" Sponsored by MassVeteran.com, a program of Easterseals Massachusetts.
