HUNTINGTON, NY — A Huntington woman was charged with animal cruelty on Friday, the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said.
Suffolk SPCA detectives found Simba, a 1-year-old male pit bull mix dog, had been neglected by Earline Milligan, 42, the Suffolk SPCA said. Milligan allowed her dog to become severely emaciated and suffer from multiple infected open sores all over his body for a lengthy period without getting medical treatment, which caused Simba injury, pain and suffering, the Suffolk SPCA said.
Milligan was charged with one count of animal cruelty, a class A misdemeanor, said Roy Gross, chief of the Suffolk SPCA.
Milligan surrendered to SPCA detectives on Friday and is scheduled to appear in First District Court in Central Islip on June 16.
"Animal cruelty will not be tolerated in Suffolk County," the Suffolk SPCA said. "If you witness any incident of animal cruelty or neglect in Suffolk County please contact the Suffolk County SPCA at 631-382-7722."
