EAST MEADOW, NY — An East Meadow man was charged with assaulting a police officer after he resisted arrest, Nassau County police said. According to police, officers were called to a home on Gladmore Street at 8:10 p.m. on May 29. When they arrived, police say the officers found that Matthew Mulqueen, 40, of East Meadow, was involved in a dispute with a 35-year-old woman, and damaged items in the home. Police say officers tried to place Mulqueen under arrest, but he refused to listen to them. After resisting, police say he was placed under arrest. Police say that one officer suffered a cut to his left hand due to Mulqueen resisting. The officer was treated at a hospital. Mulqueen is charged with second-degree assault, two counts of fourth-degree criminal mischief, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree obstructing governmental administration and resisting arrest. He was arraigned on Monday in First District Court in Hempstead, and released with a temporary order of protection.
