Description

Kula's San Juan Island Bike TrekJoin us as we explore San Juan Island the best way there is, by bicycle! This is a popular cycling destination, and for good reason - there is tons of beautiful scenery, mostly flat and low traffic roads, and fun stops along the way. Our day will start (and end) with a scenic ferry ride from the Anacortes Ferry Dock. We'll use the time on the ferry to get to know each other and to take in picture-perfect the views of bays and inlets from the boat. Once we arrive at Friday Harbor, we will bike to Roche Harbor, English Camp, and back to Friday Harbor. A detour to to Lime Kiln Point State Park can also be included, if time and energy allows. Plan for a somewhat strenuous day of cycling. This route will be about 20-30 miles depending on how far we decide to go as a group, and our cycling time will be around 2.5-3.5 hours. There is minimal elevation gain, but there are some rolling hills. We will stop for lunch in Roche Harbor, which is included in your ticket price. We will also plan on stopping for an early dinner in Friday Harbor, however this will NOT be included in your ticket price. What to Expect:Picture perfect views of the island, possible whale sightings, bald eagles, island foxes and a few bumpy roads. This trip is for experienced riders 21 or older that are comfortable in the saddle for 2-4 hours per day. Riders should be comfortable riding paved, chip-sealed roads with light vehicle traffic. The terrain may be flat, hilly but it's sure to include a few steeper ascents and descents. Most hill gradients average 3-6% and a few steeper points can reach up to 10% grades. Participants should come with their sense of humor, a spirit of adventure and the ability to go with the flow. What Is Included:Round-trip ferry ticket to Friday HarborA Custom Kula ClothLunch and non-alcoholic beverage (GF and Vegetarian options available)A planned route and route leaderThe company of a super fun group which is sure to include a few new friends! What Is NOT Included:Bike rental - you will need to bring and transport your own road bike (mountain bikes are not appropriate for this trip) to and from the Anacortes ferry dock.Dinner - we will plan on stopping at San Juan Island Brewing Co in Friday Harbor for an early dinner before returning on the ferry. This will NOT be included in the ticket price. Parking - we will be walking on to the ferry with our bikes, so you will need to pay for parking at the Anacortes Ferry Terminal. There is lots of parking in the paid lots, and it is $13 per car per day.
