Description

Guide Dogs of Texas is a growing non-profit organization located in San Antonio, TX that gives mobility and independence to Texans who are visually impaired. The Apprentice Guide Dog Mobility Instructor (AGDMI) will undertake a 3 year hands-on training program to become an internationally certified Guide Dog Mobility Instructor (GDMI). During this time, the AGDMI will learn all the knowledge and skills necessary to train guide dogs and train clients to use guide dogs under the supervision of a GDMI. In a unique aftercare program, the AGDMI will also learn how to support and shape a client team from placement to retirement of the dog. The AGDMI will work closely with the Director of Training, GDMIs, and other staff in a team effort to meet the needs of visually impaired Texans. The AGDMI will work with varying degrees of independence, as knowledge, experience, and competency is gained. We are looking for qualified candidates for this exciting opportunity who will demonstrate empathy for visually impaired individuals and a passion for enriching their lives through the help of a guide dog. Having good people skills to work with a variety of volunteers, staff, and clients is most helpful. If you are interested in a career opportunity like this please join us for our info session on April 8th!
