PHILADELPHIA — A horse was taken in after it was found wandering in North Philadelphia on Memorial Day. Philadelphia's Animal Care and Control Team officers responded to the 400 block of 4000 block of North Darien Street Monday for a call of a stray horse. According to the group, the horse, now named Darien, was left after being purchased by a person earlier in the day Monday and was being taken care of by neighbors. Action News reports the horse was left for about three and a half hours. The horse is in need of medical rehabilitation due to being underweight and was taken to the Pennsylvania SPCA, according to ACCT. Horses are not illegal in Philadelphia, but do need special housing and care, the ACCT said. "If you are considering purchasing a horse (though we would advise against it if you live in Philly) and are able to provide the care that they need, please consider adopting from a rescue," the ACCT said. "There are many homeless horses and rescues will work with you to find the right fit."
