CHATHAM, NJ — Amid the area's ongoing problem with motor vehicle theft, Chatham Township police are reminding residents to lock their vehicles and keep key fobs and garage door openers inside their homes.
The police alerted all residents after witnesses on Lenape Trail called 911 and reported an unknown male attempting to gain access to a vehicle on Sunday night. The vehicle was unlocked and parked in a driveway on Lenape Trail, according to Chatham Township police.
Police said the male suspect was unable to take the vehicle and fled the scene but did not respond to a Patch request for additional information.
"Please remember to secure your vehicles and remove all key FOBs. Suspects are in our area daily attempting to steal vehicles," police said.
