Description
MALVERN — Malvern police warn residents that there has been a recent increase in elderly residents being victims of what is known as a "grandson scam."
Scammers are contacting elderly residents via telephone and either impersonating their grandson or someone who warns them that their grandson is in trouble and needs cash in order to prevent the grandson from going to jail.
Victims have been scammed out of $6,000-$10,000, according to police.
The suspect requests to meet the victim to pick up the cash in person or provide them with a credit card.
Police urge residents to be aware of this scam and not to fall victim to it.
