Press release from the City of Hermosa Beach: May 25, 2022 HERMOSA BEACH – Following is a statement from Hermosa Beach City Manager Suja Lowenthal regarding the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas on Tuesday: "We are horrified and heartbroken by the tragic loss of innocent lives in Uvalde, TX on Tuesday. We want to assure the community that the Hermosa Beach Police Department (HBPD) is working closely with the Hermosa Beach City School District, Beach Cities Health District and with other organizations – including our public safety partners throughout the region – to keep our children and everyone in our community safe. "Public safety is our top priority, and it requires preparedness. We have partnered with the School District for a campus safety drill, which is known as Run, Hide and Distract, and Hermosa Beach Police Chief Paul LeBaron recently met with parents and school staff at a school assembly to review and explain this drill. "Our police officers and City Staff are prepared and train for all types of emergencies, including active shooter situations. We also have taken affirmative steps to protect our community by installing safety measures and infrastructure at public facilities and events. The HBPD is also working diligently to investigate crimes and behaviors that can lead to future violence. We continue to encourage the public that if you see something, say something."
