Press release from the City of Hermosa Beach: May 26, 2022 Jeannie Naughton Brings Two Decades of Experience in Community Development and Planning to City Team HERMOSA BEACH – Jeannie Naughton, who has two decades of experience in community development and planning, will join the City of Hermosa Beach's executive team on June 13 as its new Community Development Director. Over her career in the public sector, Naughton has served in planning and community development roles for four California cities, where she has helped manage a wide range of high-profile projects. Her experience includes project management of residential development projects, large-scale commercial and mixed-use projects, code and long- range plan revisions and infrastructure projects. As Hermosa Beach's new Community Development Director, Naughton will oversee the City's Community Development Department and help address the City's planning, building and safety and code enforcement needs. She will also be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the City's General Plan (PLAN Hermosa) and Zoning Ordinance to achieve the City's land use and development goals. Naughton began her career in 2002 as a community development technician in Brisbane. In 2004, she joined the City of Torrance as a planning assistant and then moved to Daly City where she became an associate planner in 2006. In 2015, she joined the Rolling Hills Estate City Staff as a senior planner. She was promoted to planning manager in 2019 and has been managing the comprehensive update and implementation of the City's General Plan. She also secured $350,000 in grant funding for long-range and current planning efforts. Naughton will replace Ken Robertson, who retired as Community Development Director on April 4 after 33 years with the City of Hermosa Beach. "We were so fortunate to have Ken as our Community Development Director for so many years, and I want to thank Deputy City Manager Angela Crespi for stepping in to serve as the interim Community Development Director since his retirement," City Manager Suja Lowenthal said. "Jeannie brings extensive experience in planning and community development, as well as knowledge of the South Bay and our community from her nearly seven years of serving Rolling Hills Estates. She will help ensure our City supports our local businesses and economy, retains the quality of life we all value and continues to be a leader in sustainability and resiliency." "I'm thrilled to join such a terrific team and serve the Hermosa community," Naughton said. "Having contributed to planning and development in the South Bay as well as in similar size cities, I am excited to bring my background in sustainability and passion for collaboration to Hermosa Beach to support the City's and community's vision. I look forward to meeting residents and implementing the City's General Plan and the policies set by City Council." Naughton lives in the South Bay and loves outdoor activities including hiking, trail-running, camping and skiing. She will participate in her third Pier-to-Pier swim, which starts in Hermosa, and she said she looks forward to commuting to City Hall on her bicycle when weather permits.
