Description

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board and Southwest Corner Workforce Development Board welcome its Healthcare Employment Ecosystem partners and representatives from their organization to join them for a seminar entitled "Responding to Healthcare's Vanishing Workforce". Workforce Strategist Dr. Chris Laney from Emsi Burning Glass will share long-term strategies for healthcare providers to consider when addressing labor needs and industry conditions and trends we should expect in the coming years. His information will be complemented with relevant data that illustrates current conditions for the healthcare industry. Dr. Laney specializes in workforce and economic development, strategic workforce planning, comprehensive planning, and data analysis. Laney works on projects related to industry sector strategies, labor market demand, and workforce availability for workforce development boards throughout the U.S. Laney comes to Emsi Burning Glass from CareerSource Suncoast in Florida where he oversaw talent pipeline strategies and legislative priorities including the development of the nation’s largest student exploration conference for high school students. Laney’s research and dissertation focused on the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act's (WIOA) influence on economic mobility among disenfranchised young adults and was the primary researcher for the Florida-based State of Students Report from 2015 - 2020. In 2019, Laney was named a Florida Workforce Innovator of the Year by the Florida College Access Network. Additionally, Executive Director Teresa Collins of District 1199C Training and Upgrading Fund will present information on how a successful training program with a waitlist of over 200 individuals has been implemented and how healthcare providers can be supported. Teresa Collins has 25 years of experience in early childhood education and workforce compliance. Teresa has worked with the Training Fund for the last five years, leading innovative programs to expand affordable Pre-Kindergarten for low-income families and implementing a statewide apprenticeship program in early childhood education. With an undergraduate degree from Penn State in human behavior, specializing in early childhood, and a master’s degree in holistic nutrition, Teresa has spent her life working to help people – severely handicapped children, people with HIV/AIDS, mothers, and children. A panel discussion moderated by Dr. Laney will follow a Q&A session in which Laney and Collins will answer healthcare providers' questions. This panel discussion will feature key members of the Healthcare Employment Ecosystem from a small, medium, and large business perspective. Specifically, panelists will touch on best practices, successful programs, and strong partnerships that they have incorporated into their organizations. Hearing from a diverse panel, attendees will learn new processes and ways to build their organization that they had not considered previously. In addition to its Healthcare Employment Ecosystem partners, the Westmoreland-Fayette Workforce Investment Board and Southwest Corner Workforce Development Board welcome others from the Southwestern Pennsylvania region to attend. Through a regional event, our goal is to support a regional effort: helping the Healthcare Industry recover, sustain, and thrive. This event will take place at the Commonwealth Charter Academy located at 162 East Bridge St., Homestead, PA 15120. Sign in will begin at 8:30 a.m. Breakfast will be provided!
