Working en plein air, participants will explore the thrill of racing the sun while painting the urban landscape around Studio by the Tracks, and neighboring historic Irondale. Plein air painting was made famous by the impressionists painters and is a tradition enjoyed by many contemporary painters. Using gouache, an opaque cousin to watercolor; participants will learn about color theory, atmospheric and linear perspective, sight-measuring, and planning a composition. Students will be provided pigment, brushes and watercolor paper. Teaching artist Andy Jordan will start the workshop with a demonstration painting before working one on one while participants to compose and complete their pieces.
