Description
OREGON CITY, OR — It's been seven years in the making. Oregon City's newest open space, Hazel Grove Park, threw open the proverbial gates on Friday and is waiting for people looking to enjoy some peacefulness in the sun (as long as it's here, that is).
The city broke ground in July, seven years after holding their first discussions about what residents wanted to see there. Much of what people asked for is now here — a dedicated nature area for kids, picnic benches, paths with lighting and accessible entrances for people.
The city broke ground on the park in July.
Oregon City named the 3.5-acre park at 11720 Hazelnut Ave. in honor of the area's deep connection to hazelnuts including a hazelnut farm that used to cover much of the area. Oregon also grows more than 90 percent of all hazelnuts grown in the United States, according to the city.
The park is also near the Hazel Grove neighborhood.
