Press release from the City of Tulsa: May 27, 2022 Having experienced a rainy spring and some flooding in the Tulsa area, residents would be wise to prepare for the next storm to come our way. The City of Tulsa is hosting a free, public event called Flood Preparedness Expo on June 6, beginning at 5:30 p.m. at the Central Center at Veterans Park, 1028 E. Sixth St. From 5:30 to 6 p.m. June 6 at the Flood Preparedness Expo, Tulsans are welcome to visit booths and displays hosted by partners in Tulsa's Program for Public Information, with a mission to help citizens learn about flood insurance and preparedness. A program will begin at 6 p.m., with speakers including Oklahoma State Insurance Commissioner Glen Mulready; Nicole McGavock, Service Hydrologist at the National Weather Service; and Bill Smiley, Chief of Emergency Management and Homeland Security at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. With Tulsa's recent promotion to Class 1 in the National Flood Insurance Program, residents in the city limits can take advantage of a 45 percent discount on flood insurance premiums - the lowest rates in the nation. Flood insurance is an excellent way for Tulsans to protect their property in case of a flood. Tulsa is one of only two U.S. cities ranked Class 1 in the National Flood Insurance Program.
