JOLIET, IL — A 38-year-old Joliet man faces a $1 million bail following last week's arrest by the Will County Sheriff's Office in connection with a home invasion and sexual assault that involved the use of duct tape and a towel to keep the woman from screaming, according to court records.
Manuel Mayo, who lives in the 100 block of Boulder Avenue, has been charged with home invasion, attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault, residential burglary and criminal trespass to residence.
According to the criminal complaint, Mayo broke into the woman's house on Southwest Circle Drive intending to commit sexual assault. The complaint states that Mayo entered the woman's house with a roll of duct tape, that he disconnected her Christmas tree lights and later stuffed a towel into the woman's mouth as he duct taped her mouth shut.
Mayo was booked into the Will County Jail around 8 p.m. Dec. 21, which is the same date as the crime, court records indicate.
