Press release from Everett Community College: May 27, 2022 "This upcoming Monday is Memorial Day, an opportunity for us to honor the brave military service members who died while serving our country. EvCC will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of the holiday. Please join me in remembering their sacrifice. Unfortunately, this will not be a weekend of joy and celebration for many families as they console the loss of loved ones. Funerals are being planned for the 19 children and two adults killed in Texas on Tuesday. Memorial services will continue for the 10 people killed in a racist attack at a Buffalo, New York grocery store. My heart breaks for those families. This week, I felt the need to embrace my children a little longer when I saw them, and told my wife, who is a teacher, how much I appreciate her commitment to protect and support our youth. Everyone deserves the right to learn and go to your local grocery store without fear of violence or harm. As a community, we must be protectors of one another. One of the ways you can help keep our college safe is by understanding EvCC's Run, Hide, Fight guide for an active shooter and lockdown procedure. Please review this information and share it with your friends so we are prepared for any potential threats. If you have any questions about these procedures, please email [email protected] I also strongly encourage you to sign up for EvCC emergency alerts and list your cell number to get a text message when EvCC is experiencing an emergency. Everyone can sign up, including your family members. EvCC's Safety, Security, and Emergency Management office is continuing to work on strengthening EvCC procedures for emergencies. We have learned a lot from the recent lockdown, including the need to return to regular lockdown drills. We will continue working hard to care for EvCC's students, faculty, and staff. I wish all of you a safe and happy weekend." Sincerely, Dr. Darrell L. Cain Interim President This press release was produced by Everett Community College.
