BOSTON, MA — After acts dropping out due to COVID-19 cases and an evacuation during a severe thunderstorm, Boston Calling 2022 has sure been one for the books. Sunday's lineup was a popular one, with big crowds gathering throughout the day to see the likes of TikTok famous Peach Tree Rascals, the Boston-based band Ripe, the British indie rock band Glass Animals, Weezer and, of course, Metallica. Peach Tree Rascals, who achieved fame when their 2019 song " Mariposa" went viral on TikTok, got the crowd going on the Green Stage shortly after the gates opened. Not to mention they stole Bostonians' hearts with a shoutout to the Celtics before they won Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Final Sunday. A distance shot of Peach Tree Rascals at Boston Calling 2022 (Annie Sandoli/Patch) Glass Animals took to the Green Stage just after 6p.m., bringing in one of the largest audiences of the weekend. "Not a lot of people know this, but I grew up around here," Dave Bayley, the band's lead singer, songwriter, and producer, told fans. "Anyone know where Worcester is?!" According to the audience's cheers, that's an affirmative. The band played their hits "Tokyo Drifting" and "Heat Waves," both featured on their 2020 album "Dreamland." The Boston-based band Ripe rocked the Blue Stage Sunday evening, sporting "Berklee College of Music" t-shirts in support of their alma mater. "Boston is our hometown as a band," Ripe frontman Robbie Wulfsohn told the audience. "And this is pretty insane." Ripe did not disappoint, kicking off their high energy set with hits like "Goon Squad" and their latest single "Settling." They even brought a cover of Aerosmith's "Sweet Emotion" to the stage. And that high energy didn't just translate to the music. Wulfsohn and his bandmates, especially Josh Shpak and Calvin Barthel from the brass section were busting moves with the crowd, especially during "Goon Squad" and "Downward." The crowd was massive and sang along to every word of the band's catalog of hits, including "Beverly Hills," "Pork and Beans," and an encore with "Say it Ain't So" and "Buddy Holly." The band played favorites including "Sad But True," "Wherever I May Roam," and "For Whom the Bells Toll" and finished off the night with "Fade to Black," and "Master of Puppets." The encore featured exactly what we all expected - "Nothing Else Matters" and "Enter Sandman." With an audience packed with fans of all ages wearing Metallica memorabilia, it was a night to remember.
