Press release from the City of San Antonio: Friday, May 27, 2022 CONTACT: Amador Salazar [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (May 27, 2022) — At yesterday's Planning & Community Development Committee meeting, the District 5 Councilmember motioned to forward the Cattleman Square Lofts project to City Council consideration, pending a public input process as required by Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The committee unanimously approved the motion. "I want to thank the Councilmembers, Neighborhood & Housing Services Department staff, San Antonio Housing Trust, Gardendale Neighborhood Association, and the Alamo Community Group for their collaboration and input. This deeply affordable housing project is now one step closer to reality," the Councilmember stated. "When this project was originally presented there were thirty-five units at 80% of the area median income (AMI), but our collaborative effort converted them into seven units at 30% AMI and twenty-eight units at 60% AMI – making the project 100% affordable." Highlights for the proposed project include 138 rental units at 60% AMI and under providing deeply affordable housing as recommended by the Strategic Housing Implementation Plan (SHIP). The project's location is close to Via Centro encouraging use of public transportation, in walking distance from the UTSA downtown campus, provides ease of access to the highway, and is in an area in dire need of revitalization increasing foot traffic for area small businesses. The Cattleman Square Lofts project also involves restoration of the historic structure on W. Houston Street, and will feature amenities such as a parking garage, a learning center, a computer lab, and on-site clothing care. This press release was produced by the City of San Antonio.
