Press release from Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce: 23 May 2022 A North Texas landmark reopened Friday after a multimillion-dollar facelift. Irving's Williams Square Plaza, featuring the iconic Mustangs of Las Colinas sculpture, made its return after a yearlong overhaul. The city, which invested $7.8 million to revitalize the aging plaza and sculpture, hosted a ceremonial ribbing cutting Friday morning. Upgrades include more trees and landscaping, movable tables, chairs, a multipurpose patio, improved lighting and fountain upgrades. Crews removed large sections of granite paving to create a more pedestrian-friendly public space on O'Connor Boulevard near Carpenter Freeway. City leaders have said they hope to use the space for more public gatherings such as orchestra concerts, Christmas tree lightings and festivals. The original plaza, with its acres of granite, was built at a time when monumental building projects were more favored than people-friendly spaces. Read the full story at Dallas Morning News.
