Hello, Concord! I'm back with your fresh copy of the Concord Daily. Here's all the community news you need to know right now. Let us remember all our heroes in uniform who made ultimate sacrifices to defend our country from the enemies on this special day. Wishing you a warm and Happy Memorial Day. First, today's weather: Sunny with a gusty breeze. High: 79 Low: 51. 📢 I'm looking for business owners and marketers in Concord who want to build awareness, connect with customers and increase sales. I have a limited number of sponsorships available to introduce our Concord Daily readers to local businesses they need to know about. If that's you, then I invite you to learn more and secure your spot now. Here are the top five stories today in Concord: From the desk of Pleasant Hill Mayor Michael G Harris: "While Memorial Day is a time to honor those who died serving our country, it's also an opportunity to remember all who served our country in times of war and peace.... When Francis Scott Key penned "The Star-Spangled Banner," he wrote we were "the land of the free and the home of the brave." With all due respect, I think he got it wrong. We are the land of the free because we are the home of the brave. Please join the Pleasant Hill community on Memorial Day in honoring all who served our country at home and abroad. Thank them for the sacrifices they made to keep our great country "the land of the free." Read his entire Memorial Day message at this Pioneer link. (Pioneer Publishers)Usually, the only time you get to see the jaws of life is when you're trapped in a vehicle and would probably prefer they didn't need them. But today, at the Art and Wind Festival in San Ramon you can see them from a safe distance as the San Ramon Firefighters demonstrate their skill at using them. You'll also get to see the fire dogs' skill at sniffing out sources of arson and you can meet the community emergency response team, as well! (Contra Costa Herald)Memorial Day officially kicks off boating season on the delta! With it come some risks. The Contra Costa Sheriff's Office offers some tips on how to keep yourself and your loved ones safe this boating season. "Each year during boating season, marine patrol deputy sheriffs respond to incidents that include intoxicated boaters, drownings, and collisions," said Contra Costa County Sheriff David Livingston. "My deputies will do what they can to keep boaters safe. By following the laws and rules, wearing a life-jacket, and staying away from alcohol while boating, you could help avoid an accident or tragedy." (East County Today)Cancer Support Community Hope Walk returned to Heather Farms Park this year after a two year hiatus due to the pandemic. It brought together over 900 people to raise funds for free support programs for cancer patients and their families. "This day is so important to me and my family. When I was first diagnosed, the Hope Walk was a day that truly inspired me and brought me great comfort to see all of these people who knew what I was going through. I'm thrilled to have led the planning committee this year," said Hope Walk Chair and cancer survivor, Aileen Cameron. This year's Hope Walk raised a record $228,000. (Pioneer Publishers)At 8:47 a. m. Saturday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District received a report of a vegetation fire in the area of Solano and Suisun in Bay Point that grew into a 20-acre brush fire by 2 p.m. Fortunately, the winds were blowing the fire away from homes in the area at the time of this report.
